How to cancel
The lead traveller should send a cancellation request in writing to booking@dastelsafaris.com or through our contact form, including:
- The booking reference and lead traveller's name
- The travellers and services you wish to cancel
- The reason for cancelling, which helps if you make an insurance claim
Your cancellation takes effect on the date we receive it, and we will acknowledge it in writing.
How charges are worked out
The cancellation schedule for your journey is set out in your quotation and booking confirmation. Charges are based on:
- How close to departure you cancel
- Amounts already paid to lodges, camps, airlines and other suppliers that cannot be recovered
- Park, conservation and Kilimanjaro permits that have already been issued
- Bank and payment charges that cannot be reversed
If you would like to see the cancellation schedule that applies to your journey before you pay a deposit, just ask.
Why charges rise closer to departure
Lodges, camps and airlines hold space for you and turn other guests away. The closer to departure you cancel, the less chance they have of re-selling it, so their charges, and therefore ours, increase as your travel date approaches.
Cancelling part of a booking
If one or more travellers cancel and others still travel, the price for those travelling may change. Shared costs such as vehicles, guides and rooms are spread over fewer people, and single supplements may apply. We will send you a revised price before making any change.
Changing your dates instead
Where availability allows, we will happily look at moving your journey to new dates. A change may involve supplier amendment fees and price differences for the new season. A large change to the itinerary may be treated as a cancellation and a new booking. We will explain all the options before you decide.
Unused services and no-shows
No refund is normally due for services you choose not to use once your journey has started, such as missed game drives, meals, transfers, accommodation nights or leaving early. The same applies if you miss services because of late arrival, missing travel documents or being refused entry to Tanzania.
Kilimanjaro and mountain treks
Your safety on the mountain always comes first. If you descend early because of altitude sickness, illness or a decision by your mountain guide, unused days on the mountain are not refundable. Extra costs such as additional hotel nights or transfers after an early descent are your responsibility and may be claimable from your travel insurance.
If we need to cancel
We very rarely cancel a confirmed journey. If we must, for example for safety reasons, we will tell you as soon as possible and discuss alternative dates or arrangements with you, or refund the payments you have made to us in line with your booking confirmation.
Events outside anyone's control
If travel is prevented by events such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, civil unrest or government restrictions, we will work with our suppliers to recover as much as possible and to offer alternative dates. Please contact your travel insurer promptly. We will provide the booking documents and cancellation letters you need for your claim. Refunds are explained in our Refund Policy.
